I’d like to take this opportunity to give a few thoughts on the “State of the BCA”. We are doing well with connecting with other neighborhood organizations such as Tri-R Management and Bayberry Plaza merchants, Irongate, UCC, Christ the King, Edge FCU and Howard Hanna Realty. We want to continue to expand these networks and deepen these ties.

We are grateful for many new volunteers stepping up and previous new volunteers taking on new roles. The Christmas Tree Lighting and Easter Egg Hunt, in particular, generated a lot of interest. We have an excellent candidate for treasurer who is just waiting on a review of our insurance policy to make sure all coverages are up-to-date. Having Rosemary Salamone and Cristina Kareem step in so quickly to cover welcoming new residents was a true Godsend. We really still need a secretary to take minutes at board meetings. Right now minutes are not as complete as they could be since I am trying to keep track of everything while also running the meeting. The secretary is also a full-fledged officer and helps run the organization.

In terms of activities, we are trying out new things and seeing what sticks. The community seems to enjoy contests and events associated with traditional holidays. I’m still hoping to get some clubs going because they are great for building relationships. If you have an interest around which you would like to gather like-minded individuals, we don’t have the man power to set it up for you, but would LOVE to support you in getting it started. If you want to start or promote an already existing heart walk team, running club, bowling team, book club, or are a witch short for your coven (fairy godmother variety only, of course), we are dying to help you publicize and organize!

In terms of membership, we are at about 800 out of 1,500 households. That’s not bad and we hope to continue to grow that as we demonstrate that your $5 is well spent. ;) Thank you for all your support, Bayberry! Let’s keep building this community together!
